Pregnancy is such a fleeting, emotional chapter and one of the most beautiful stories to capture on camera. Whether it’s your first baby or your fifth, there’s something sacred about the glow, the connection, and the anticipation that deserves to be preserved in timeless, emotive photographs.

Here are my best tips to help you prepare for a dreamy maternity session that feels relaxed, connected, and true to you.

Why Choose The Sunday Frame

I believe maternity photography should feel like a story, not a photoshoot. At The Sunday Frame, my focus is on emotion, light, and connection , capturing the quiet moments that often go unseen. With a soft, cinematic style and a gentle approach to posing, I create space for you to feel present, beautiful, and fully yourself. Every session is tailored to reflect your unique journey into motherhood, with care, intention, and warmth.

When is the Best Time to Take Maternity Photos?

The sweet spot for maternity photography is between 28–34 weeks.

At this stage, your belly is beautifully round and pronounced, but you’re likely still feeling comfortable enough to move, walk, and pose with ease. Every pregnancy is different, though, if you’re carrying twins or feeling particularly tight sooner, we can always adjust your date earlier.

Tip: Don’t wait too long .. booking in advance ensures we have time to plan the perfect light, location, and styling.

What to Wear for Your Maternity Photos

Soft textures, muted tones, and movement-friendly fabrics always photograph best.

Here are a few of my go-to tips:

Choose flowy dresses in soft neutrals like ivory, taupe, oatmeal, or muted blush

Avoid bold prints or bright colours, we want you to be the focus

Embrace natural textures: linen, gauze, cotton, lace

Partner or children should wear coordinating neutrals, not matchy-matchy, just harmonious

Barefoot is always welcome, especially for in-home or golden hour sessions

I offer styling help with each session and can suggest favorite wardrobe pieces or links!

Where Should We Shoot?

It depends on your story. Here are my favorite options:

🌾 Golden Hour Field – Cinematic light, open skies, and space to move freely. Ideal for dreamy, emotive photos.

🏡 In-Home Lifestyle – Cozy, relaxed, and personal. Perfect for capturing connection and quiet moments in your own space.

🏙 Urban Corners – Unique architecture, minimal backdrops, and a modern edge for mamas who want something different.

How to Prep for Your Session

  • Hydrate the day before and get a good night’s rest
  • Consider light makeup and soft curls or a loose bun
  • Keep nails neutral , your hands will be in many close-ups
  • Bring lip balm, water, and comfy shoes for walking to the location
  • Most importantly: don’t stress. This is about celebrating, not performing.

How I Work

My approach is gentle, guided, and natural. We’ll focus on movement over posing , swaying in the light, walking hand-in-hand with your partner, hands on your belly, quiet smiles. I’ll guide you with prompts so nothing ever feels forced.
